Why should I rewire my property?Over time, wiring can wear out or become outdated, posing potential risks like electrical fires or shocks. Rewiring ensures that your home's electrical system is up-to-date, meeting modern safety standards. It enhances the reliability of your power supply, reduces the risk of electrical issues, and provides a solid foundation for using contemporary appliances. It's essentially an investment in both safety and the efficient functioning of your home.
-
How do I know if my property needs rewiring?Look for signs like flickering lights, tripping breakers or dangerous wiring. An EICR can flag any issues with the electrical system and provide a summary of the condition of the electrical system. If the property's wiring is several decades old, it's a good idea to consider a professional inspection.
-
How disruptive is the rewiring process? It can be quite disruptive, as we will need to gain access to floor boards, loft spaces, ceilings and most walls. Fully furnished properties may take longer to rewire due to moving the furniture and ensuring nothing gets damaged.
-
How long does a rewire typically take? The duration of a rewire varies according to several factors, such as the size of the property, if the property is furnished, floor type and general layout of the building. An average rewire can take between 4-7 days.
-
Can you work with my builders?Yes! We work with various builders and tradesmen and can liaise with them directly.
-
What is an EICR?An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) is like a health checkup for your home's electrical system. Just like you visit a doctor for a checkup, your home's electrical system needs one too. A qualified electrician inspects all the wiring, sockets, switches, and other electrical components to make sure they are safe and working properly. They'll note down any problems or issues they find. The EICR helps ensure your home's electrical system is in good shape and won't cause safety problems like electrical fires or shocks. It's especially important for older homes or when you're buying or selling a property to know the condition of the electrical system.
-
Do I need an EICR?An EICR is needed periodically for general safety, during property transactions, as part of landlord responsibilities, after significant electrical work, or in response to safety concerns. It helps ensure that the electrical system in a property is safe and up to standard. Generally, a previous report will have a recommended next test date, this is a good place to start. If you have never had the property tested it is best to get it tested right away, or if you feel you meet any of this criteria then get in touch.
-
Do I have to fix an unsatisfactory report? There is no standard answer that can be given as all installations and situations are different from each other. The installation has been given an unsatisfactory result as there are issues of electrical safety and a duty of care exists in law to ensure that employees or members of the public are not placed in a position of unacceptable risk. The Electrician that provided the report will be able to provide an appropriate timescale for the works.
-
I've never had an EICR, my property is fine!Contrary to this belief, your installation was most likely installed the same time the building was constructed. The advancement of technology and electricity uses since then have meant that the requirements for safety have also increased. With Electric cars and Solar power being so prevalent, it is a good time to check your property.
-
I've had an Unsatisfactory report, can you help?Yes! We are able to provide a quote for the works required on the report. However, should any additional defects be found that were missed during the initial report, these will require further attention.
-
What are signs my fuseboard needs updating? An easy way to know if your fuseboard should be updated is by a quick visual check. If you have a fuseboard that uses rewireable fuses, has a wooden back, or is in generally bad condition (open holes, no labels) this is generally a sign that your fuseboard will need updated. Otherwise, you can schedule an EICR which will flag an issues with the installation.
-
Why should I update my fuseboard?Updating your fuseboard enhances electrical safety, ensures compliance with current regulations, and can incorporate modern features for better protection.
-
Can I upgrade my fuseboard myself? It is very strongly recommended that works of this nature are carried out by competent persons, and the correct building authority notified of the works completed. Poor electrical terminations are the cause of fires, and it is best to leave this to the professionals.
-
Do I need to update my fuseboard when renovating my home?Yes, it's advisable to update the fuseboard during renovations to ensure it meets current safety standards and can handle the increased electrical load from modern appliances and technologies.
